We've been planning our move to Alaska since our orders were issued in February. First we decide WHEN to leave our current duty station, and then WHEN to actually move out. Andy and I looked at the calendar and started checking off all the contingencies of when the new coastie was moving in, when was the coastie leaving the position we were filling and of course the kids and when their activities were over.
In my mind, we needed to provide Molly with some closure. This is Molly's first move that she will remember and she has made many, many friends and connections here in Rhode Island. So, June 5, 2013, Molly's Preschool Graduation. We could move any time after that, as long as she got a chance to say good-bye and then Hello Kindergarten.
Molly has attended Happy Hearts Learning Center for the last three years. Molly woke up Wednesday morning and announced "today is graduation!" Happy Hearts has been educating kids for 27 years, and their motto is "we know what we are doing, and it works." Last night's graduation was no different. Families arrived at the Fireman's Hall in East Greenwich a little before 6pm. The kids marched in and then split up to receive their certificates. Each student was honored with two short stories about themselves as told by their teachers. The evening finished with a photo montage.
As the photo montage finished Molly said I feel like crying and her little tears ran down her face. Of course, this was my cue to cry too. We've met some wonderful people at Happy Hearts. We said goodbye to two special friends and then we closed the door. In the car Molly announces that she had Happy Tears and is ready for Kindergarten.
Bravo, my little lady. So many exciting new adventures are head of us and as one door closed the other has opened.
