Maine...The Way Life Should Be

We are still in Maine! Every day is easy living of swimming in the lake, going on hikes, viewing the wild life and resting.

Andy arrived on Tuesday and we are so glad to have him around. The kids love to wrestle with him and he is always up for an adventure.

Andy arrived just in time for my 35th birthday. What a great day it was with breakfast out, a hike up bald mountain, a pedicure and then a family dinner. Hard to believe how wonderful our life has become at 35! I feel 25 most days :)

Now if only we could see some sunshine. The amount of rain in the mountains is unbelievable. I guess it's preparing us for Kodiak.

Lastly if you have not seen EPIC, take your kids. It's fantastic!

One Week

It's hard to believe its been one week since saying good-bye to our friends in Rhode Island. It feels as though we are just out of town on a short trip. Actually, Andy hasn't left yet. His last day of work is today.

Our paths will cross again next week. His adventure begins this weekend in Detroit at our friend Art's wedding. Then he flies back to the east coast to drop our truck off. It's being shipped out of NJ.

The girls and I have had a great week exploring Rangeley,Me. Rangeley is in the western mountains of maine. My parents call Rangeley home and I grew up summering on the lake.  We have rested, hiked, rested, made fairy houses, rested, played in the lake, rested....see a pattern.

Our next week will be a tad bit busier as the cousins have arrived at the lake for the summer. Molly and amelia now have instant playmates. I am also finalizing plans for our road trip.  Lastly, Amelia's speech was picked up by the Alaska Early Learning program.  She will start her lessons a few days after arriving on island.

Below are  pictures of our current adventures:

Moved Out

It's Saturday and we are all moved out. It's been a very long week of packing, cleaning and saying good bye to friends. Our life is now comprised of 460 itmems crated for Kodiak and four suitcases, a cartop carrier and trailer for our trip.

Our week was successful in part to the friends we have made here. Molly and Amelia got loved on with play date after play date. The kids were in good hands so that we could close up shop.

Today we are still in Rhode Island going to our final good bye BBQ. Our friend is letting us stay at his house. It's like being in a vacation rental. We love it. The girls and I are off to Maine tomorrow for the next couple of weeks.

Talk to you soon.

Packers Arrive!

No one really tells you what to expect when you are getting ready to move.  Our last move from St. Pete there were only three of us and it was a easy transfer up the East Coast.  This time around there are four of us and we are making a HUGE move to Alaska.

I felt like I'd given myself enough time to meet all the requirements, take pictures off of the walls, unplug electronic equipment, and put aside anything you don't want the movers to pack.  Its what is written between the lines that you have to remember: clean out your bathroom closet, so four years worth of decongestant, old toiletries, bandage supplies, and the three tubes of sunburn cream don't make the trip.  Its the trash cans that you need to clean out and empty before they get packed, the curtains that need to be washed, and of course opening the forgotten attic to see what you might have put up there for storage.

Last but not least, no where is it written down that your five year old goes to wash her hands, pulls up the drain plug to play, and then leaves the water running.  Who knows for how long, but suddenly you hear water raining down into the basement. So, Andy and I raised the white flag and called in the troops for help! The kids got a great day of play of with friends and Andy and I increased our work load.  BUT, we got it done.

Four bags have been packed for our month long adventure, toys have been rescued and organized from hidden places, donations have been made at the local food pantry and to friends, and the ceiling has been repaired!

Already our move is going smoothly. The packers arrived on time and after about two hours the Quality Control Representative from Newport stopped in to see how we were doing!  We learned not only will they box and wrap our stuff, but then its put into crates.  Everyone is friendly and efficient. Now, if only one the rain would hold off....but as all know. You can't control everything.

Preschool Graduation

We've been planning our move to Alaska since our orders were issued in February. First we decide  WHEN to leave our current duty station, and then WHEN to actually move out.  Andy and I looked at the calendar and started checking off all the contingencies of when the new coastie was moving in, when was the coastie leaving the position we were filling and of course the kids and when their activities were over.

In my mind, we needed to provide Molly with some closure. This is Molly's first move that she will remember and she has made many, many friends and connections here in Rhode Island.  So, June 5, 2013, Molly's Preschool Graduation.  We could move any time after that, as long as she got a chance to say good-bye and then Hello Kindergarten.

Molly has attended Happy Hearts Learning Center for the last three years. Molly woke up Wednesday morning and announced "today is graduation!"   Happy Hearts has been educating kids for 27 years, and their motto is "we know what we are doing, and it works."  Last night's graduation was no different.  Families arrived at the Fireman's Hall in East Greenwich a little before 6pm.  The kids marched in and then split up to receive their certificates.  Each student was honored with two short stories about themselves as told by their teachers.  The evening finished with a photo montage.

As the photo montage finished Molly said I feel like crying and her little tears ran down her face. Of course, this was my cue to cry too. We've met some wonderful people at Happy Hearts. We said goodbye to two special friends and then we closed the door.   In the car Molly announces that she had Happy Tears and is ready for Kindergarten.

Bravo, my little lady.  So many exciting new adventures are head of us and as one door closed the other has opened.

Monday morning the packers arrive...
